  • Muslims Bombed Us!

There are times in my life when I am almost seriation my brain is going to explode. Today was one such day.

I am in college level english. At this point in our careers we should be written with eloquence, few grammatical errors, and sentences that are near publishable. My english class is anything but educated.

Our class was assigned a reading from our text book called "Is a Holy War Inevitable?" by Karen Armstrong. I recommend reading it. The goal of this essay was to enlighten readers about the Muslim culture, religion, and belief system. I enjoyed it very much and found myself learning a great deal. It quoted Koran scripture and over all taught the reader some very important aspects of the Muslim people.

The next day we were in class was the day to discuss the reading. The professor (who I am becoming less and less fond of) posed the following question:

"Do you believe Armstrong presents a balanced discussion of eastern and western religion or has she simply rationalized the terrors the United States experienced seven years ago?"

I swear it was like the world stopped when this idiot started speaking. I will, of course, never remember her comment word for word as I was not anticipating record breaking ignorance here, but I will try to get it as accurate as possible. Brace yourselves, your brain may hurt after this, as mine does now.

"I think she was making it okay that the Muslims bombed us."

Poof! There goes my brain! Almost instantly i started shaking my head and looking around to see if anyone else found this even the least bit wrong. No one! I could not make this up. Not a single person found anting wrong with what this moron just said. I of course had to step in.

"The Muslims did not bomb us. First of all Muslim is a group of people similar to Americans. Second of all we were not bombed. We were attacked by airplanes that 2 of our epicenters."

I don't understand how one person can make it so far in life and be such an idiot. I realize I am not attending Harvard but am I seriously surrounded by idiots. We are all old enough to remember the atrocities that occurred that day. I guess she was too busy becoming the youngest girl to lose her virginity. Lofty aspirations.

Another alarming point this poses, is the fact that people actually believe an entire nationality is out to get us. What happened to the trade towers and pentagon was not the product of an angry culture, rather the Radicals clashing with our culture. In Armstrong's essay she suggests it may be from their hatred of westernization, and attempt to place the blame solely on the United States. The radicals want to stay "fundamental" to the Islamic faith. And westernization is making this even harder.

Do many of you know much about the Islam faith? Are you aware that Mohammed (their prophet) saw himself as an extension of Christianity? Their Koran states "We believe in the same god. Your god and our god is one." Verbatim people.

I didn't mean for this post to be come a religious rant, however I truly believe that if someone is going to open their mouth about such a widespread issue, they should know what they are talking about.

-As a little humor for all of you laughing at that horrid wenches remark...A few moments later the professor gave her extra credit for knowing what year it was in the Islam faith. (she looked it up on her blackberry...and still got extra credit) As someone who prides themselves on working damn hard for the grade and trying to sound intelligent in everything she does, I find it humiliating that the same professor giving me a's is also providing her with extra credit for  being a bimbo. Maybe they are screwing, either way they have both lost my respect. -

  • hahahaha..... oh my god. what an idiot. see, that is the problem with most americans. lol. it was not muslims, it was not iraqians, it was a group of extremists, who believed something so crazy, it drove them to do it. (we recently talked about this kinda thing in my psyc class, and about self-esteem and all that mumbo jumbo) haha. but no, really that is the funniest thing ever. i enjoyed that post. lol i have similar problems with my anth class, some people in there act like they are saving the goddamn world, or act like they're more worldly than our teacher or something. idk but ppl really piss me off in there. haha. =)

  • I think that there is some truth to the idea that these Muslim extremists hate us and want to destroy us.  We as a country, stand for freedom.  They don't like that.  There is a libertine level of acceptance of the moral evils--but I think that is the price of freedom.  We must allow a certain level of freedom (pursuit of happiness), while maintaining a level of restraint.  I too think we have gone too far, and could use a little more restraint in our language, actions, and thoughts.  But to bomb those you disagree with?  Or to send airplanes to kill as many people as possible?  Uh-uh.  That is not a good that should be accepted or excused.  We needed to retaliate once we knew the source of this evil, and we have done it.

I read an article, last week, that used President Bush's speech from 7 years ago.  In his plan, we are not finished yet.  In our living reality: I think we need to withdraw soon to our land, and agree that initial mission is completed, and hopefully the lesson is learned.  We will see, as we change Presidents over the next 3 months.

  • good post! We have similar students in our Nursing classes... I don't think any class is immune.

  • @CaitlinXlikeOMG - It's all just ignorance. 100 % pure ignorance.
